<description>A video done for an assignment called "parallax" dealing with still images and narrative. A simple play on words serves as the punchline and a commentary on how sometimes you just shit out work at art school.

<description>In the fall of 2008, IBM approached Ogilvy with the task of creating the face of Watson, a computer designed to understand natural language. As a test, the computer would appear on Jeopardy in a competition against the world's best champions - Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter.

But what kind of image could represent a supercomputer nearly capable of human thinking? Was it humanoid? Was it abstract? Should it be an actual person? We also had to contend with the fact that the Avatar had literally seconds of camera time per answer, altogether, about 6 minutes of camera time total. It had to convey emotion in an instant.

Our solution was an abstract piece of generative art that took avatar took cues from the existing Smarter Planet icon campaign and made use of color, speed, and shape to convey ideas of data, intelligence, and even emotion. We worked with pioneering generative artist Joshua Davis to bring the idea to life.

Overview

Process Video

The Avatar in action

The Face of Watson from the What is Watson? Film Series

And Conan O'Brien made his own avatar and let Andy Richter beat it down.

The Avatar was displayed on a hi-def LCD screen situated behind the middle podium between Jennings and Rutter.

<description>I was fortunate enough to be a part of the huge group of creative minds tasked with creating global awareness for the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference (COP15). Imagined as a thoroughly grass roots campaign, Hopenhagen encouraged people around the world to embrace the power of a global push for real change. Although the successes of the actual conference failed to address many of the problems our planet currently faces, the campaign proved that people around the world are ready to their leaders to listen and act. User created videos began to pop up around the internet, discussions blossomed in forums, Facebook pages turned green, and a soccer team even adopted the Hopenhagen name for a match. In collaboration with: Niels West, Greg Gerstner, Michael Paterson, Justin Walsh, Sarah Nguyen, and lots more. Creative directors: Tom Godici and Greg Ketchum.
